THE LOO MADE COOL

The Compost Toilet

With a compost toilet, you can have civilised toilet facilities just about anywhere. There is no need for running water or plumbing of any sort, the Cooloo is a stand alone compost toilet unit that can handle number ones and number twos with ease. That’s why we call them cool.

We think this is the most original and well designed compost toilet currently available in the UK and it’s unique construction and good looks make it perfect for any location. The picture on the home page is a customer’s Cooloo and shows the eco toilet in use in a woodland.

CUTTING EDGE QUALITY

The Cooloo is designed using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, to ensure every unit is perfect. The main panels are cut from 18mm exterior grade Plywood on a Computer Numerical Control router (CNC). This is done to make sure each and every Cooloo is exactly the same and the final quality is consistent. How cool is that?

The main toilet unit features a liquid separator so as to not allow liquids and solids to mix during uses. This is what keeps odours down and the unit working properly.

Inside the main seat section there is a 25 litre solids collector that can be emptied by removing the top of the seat unit. The liquids are channeled away from the solids container by pipework and as standard the unit is configured to allow the liquids to soak away in the surrounding ground. However the unit can be configured to uses a urine collector on the exterior, should soak away not be possible in the chosen location. If you require this extra option, please contact us first.

Why Compost Toilet

Why?

COMPOST LOO FACTS

The main toilet unit features a liquid separator so as to not allow liquids and solids to mix during use. This is what keeps odours down and the unit working properly. This separation is the key to the success our Cooloos and of all eco, compost toilets.
01. LIQUIDS AND SOLIDS SEPARATION

If you require this extra option, please contact us.

02. HOW IT WORKS

Because the liquids and solids are kept apart during use, this cuts odours considerably and keeps the Cooloo usable even when used by many people. A handful of sawdust, goes into the solids container before use and then another after. The sawdust helps to break down the waste and helps in the composting process. We suggest keeping a container full of sawdust in the Cooloo, along with a source of water, such as a large bottle as we suggest pouring a small amount down the liquid section after each use.

03. COMPOSTING

The unit itself is not used for composting the collected solids, so we always recommend getting a composting bin to accompany your Cooloo. Any standard composting unit will be fine and these are readily available and relatively inexpensive. Once the solids container is full, it can be emptied into the composting bin and over time the contents of the bin will turn into useful composting material known as Humanure. We recommend using biodegradable liners for the solids container as these can go in the compost bin.

04. CARE AND CLEANING

Our unit is constructed from 18mm Plywood and the design of the construction means there are very few screws. Most of the supporting parts slot together for added strength. The roof of the toilet is made from pressure treated larch and keeps out all weather, but allows for good ventilation. There is a frosted acrylic window in both from door and the back wall and each unit has a hinged door with an inner bolt for privacy.

The main plywood comes untreated allowing you to apply your own weather proofing to the outside. A good waterproof seal and top coat will see your unit last many years. The roof ridge is made from folded aluminium.

The top section of the seat box can be easily removed for periodic cleaning.

Build and Delivery

YOUR COOLOO DELIVERY

Each toilet come fully constructed and ships nationwide. Please contact us for shipping costs, as these will vary depending on your location. The bottom of the unit has a purpose built pallet section to allow the unit to be lifted and moved by any standard fork lift truck.

YOUR COOLOO. BUILT TO ORDER AND DELIVERED

Each Cooloo is built to order so we need 2-3 weeks to get your built and delivered to you. The actual toilet seat unit and separator we use helps with ventilation and can be removed for cleaning at selected intervals.

As the Cooloo is delivered fully constructed, you will need to take this into consideration when deciding on final placement. As they are designed to be placed, pretty much anywhere, you’ll need to be able to transport it from the delivery site.

ANY CHANCE OF A FLAT PACK VERSION?

We can, under special circumstances, send your Cooloo as a self-constructed, flat pack unit. As the majority of the unit slots together, this makes construction on site a possibility and for very remote or hard to access sites, this could be the perfect solution. Please contact us for details of flat pack Cooloos.
